What a season! As I predicted, Spring 2017 is a really good season with several great anime as well as other side anime that are not bad, not to mention the many unexpectedly nice ones. Since it’s already been a month since the season started, we more or less would know which anime are bad and which are good. So, without further ado, let’s get into the exciting mid season review! I have dropped Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai. It has many good things, such as a really good soundtrack as well as really nice animations, but its story seems to be purely promoting more and more ecchi things as well as being close to hentai overall. As such, I will not be watching Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai anymore and have decided to drop it after the 3rd episode. I only ever decided to watch 3 episodes just to see if it has actual plot advancements etc. but it only seems to be “plot” advancements. This anime was not my cup of tea, and it is dropped from my list of currently watching anime now. Continue reading “Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai is not my cup of tea”
I went outside with friends today, and for lunch, we went to a random place to eat. As there were two choices possible that both seemed like a delicious treat, I was unable to decide on what exactly to eat. In order to resolve my dilemma Continue reading “So I just got really lucky/unlucky today…”

Anime name: Youjo Senki
It was actually really surprising for me to run into and eventually watch Youjo Senki. This was due to several circumstances. First, at that time I actually did not use MAL and instead relied on the top charts of another website to decide on what anime I should watch next. This had many MANY flaws and one of them was that only the most popular anime are shown in the front page, as such, lesser known but good anime are hard to be seen. This was the case with Youjo Senki, and as a result I did not notice its existence. The second and third obstacles were with Youjo Senki itself. Despite being adapted from a popular(debatable) Light Novel in Japan, it was being produced by a new anime studio NUT(formed from former Madhouse employees) and has little to no coverage and popularity with the western anime watchers. As such, little is known about this anime and there were not many recommendations nor did it gain a lot of popularity when it first started out. Not only did Youjo Senki have an unimpressive background and fanbase, it also had a very plain and typical type of “packaging”. As you can see from the cover art above and synopsis below, it definitely doesn’t seem impressive on the outside:
Tanya Degurechaff is a young soldier infamous for predatorial-like ruthlessness and an uncanny, tactical aptitude, earning her the nickname of the “Devil of the Rhine.” Underneath her innocuous appearance, however, lies the soul of a man who challenged Being X, the self-proclaimed God, to a battle of wits—which resulted in him being reincarnated as a little girl into a world of magical warfare. Hellbent on defiance, Tanya resolves to ascend the ranks of her country’s military as it slowly plunges into world war, with only Being X proving to be the strongest obstacle in recreating the peaceful life she once knew. But her perceptive actions and combat initiative have an unintended side effect: propelling the mighty Empire into becoming one of the most powerful nations in mankind’s history.
In fact, to me, it seemed like your typical lolibait anime which uses a loli MC and some lewd scenes to attract attention. Thus, even though I saw the anime once, I did not think much of it and didn’t try it out.
However, 4 weeks after Youjo Senki came out, when it was on episode 4, I happened to spot it on the top charts. I decided to take a look at what made this anime popular all of a sudden and went into the first episode not expecting much. And that is how I got into Youjo Senki. Reason for special review:
There were several things that happened in this episode that made me decide to give it a special review. First, there is much improvements in this episode in terms of the story and plot advancement. It was quite a ride the entire episode and I think the story is only just starting to get heated up. Not only did it go into main details about character’s actions and their thinking, it also went pretty deep into character development as well as containing action. Second, the story-telling method of this episode is still really lacking as compared to what they can actually do. It is really dry and could be done much better. Lastly, there were several big moments in this episode that pretty much decided on where the story is going. There is a big mystery left behind by what was presented and there’s a high possibility that they will go back on it and resolve it in later episodes.

Reason for special review:
Well, I did not expect an anime to get so much better after getting the introduction out of the way. Not only did the story now develop interesting plot points, the characters have all started to develop nicely, with a nice amount of back story to uncover for all 3 MCs. Not only that, there is quite a bit of comedy gold in this episode too, making it much more entertaining. The magic presented by this anime also has interesting concepts that are very different from your typical cast and be done with it magic spells, and as such, can lead to very exciting and entertaining battles. Definitely upped in terms of quality. Continue reading “Anime special reviews: Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records(Ep 2)”
