First impressions: Piano no Mori

That was a great episode! I actually didn’t really know what to expect before I started to watch this series. All I did was to simply jump on the hype train, and I’m so glad that it went well.

The story is pretty nice and attractive, and it certainly has got a seinen vibe to it given the complicated situations that the characters are in currently. And speaking of the characters, they are all pretty well designed. I’m liking the main character(s) already, and  hopefully the character growth is as expected. In terms of the plot, the series is doing great too, as it is for some reason plenty interesting to see the journey of a poor kid becoming a master pianist, huh. Who would have guessed?(*cough*Literally all the shounen series*cough*)

In terms of art and animations however, there is admittedly a little lacking in the 2D department. However, the anime more than makes up for it in terms of the 3DCGI, which is not only gorgeous looking, but also fits in with the 2D side of things really well. After coming out scarred by Souten no Ken, I am very happy to see this beautiful usage of 3DCGI, reminding us that anime can be good in 3D as well.

And another thing that made me quite happy was the quality of good music in this anime. Being tagged in the music genre is quite a thing, as it means you will have to physically prove how good you are in the music department. The anime proved just that with this first episode, showing some crisp piano music coupled with good voice acting and sound effects. I would love to hear more pieces in the future episodes.

Overall, it was a great first episode that does its job well and at the same time make the viewers anticipate more. I’m looking forward to more of this.

First impressions rating: 8/10

Wow, Kai was not lying when he said it gets even better at night.

Well, now that I’m feeling better having found another great series, it’s time to get a bit more adventurous again with my next pick. This time, it’s a death game type series, which is the genre I like quite a bit(but usually fails with anime adaptations). Please don’t be disappointing…

I would appreciate any feedback and discussion!
